Beauty Tips
Generations of harem ladies can’t be wrong, so start your holiday with some inexpensive, self indulgent pampering.

The majority of modern Turkish women, regardless of their social bracket, visit their local hairdressing salon weekly (possibly more often) - manicured nails, waxed legs and beautifully blow-dried hair is important to Turkish woman.. Although the Turkish method of blow-drying varies considerably from those of many other countries (you can end up sitting with about 15 brushes in your
hair!) you can be assured of an excellent, long-lasting hair-style.

Manicure / Pedicure
This is very common in Turkey. Have your cuticles trimmed, nails filed and painted along with a wonderful hand and wrist massage.

A pedicure is the ideal solution for feet suffering from heat or travel aches. A long soak followed by cleaning, trimming and massage and nail varnish will certainly put you in the mood for a holiday.

Eyebrow, chin and "moustache" plucking
Eyebrows are often neglected in the
holiday preparations, so now is the
time to get those beetle-brows sorted out. Forget about squinting into the
mirror with tweezers in hand.

Turkish salons have an unbeatable
system using nothing but a cunningly twisted piece of cotton string. If you
wish they will also use the same tool to remove facial hair from the chin and "moustache" area - be warned, though, the upper-lip area can hurt.

Hair
Having got this far, you’ll probably feel like going for the whole works with a
hair wash and maybe a cut too. The standard of haircutting in Turkey is
high and great value, for example a
hair cut costs about 6 euros while a manicure or pedicure costs 6 or 7 euros. A perm or hi-lighting will cost in the vicinity of 40 euros each which is reportedly much less then European prices.

You may find your stylist has a preference for “big” hair, but even if you have difficulty in explaining your requirements, there will always be plenty of beauty magazines around to use as examples.

Waxing:
If you came away with everything except the hair removal cream, don't despair. The art of waxing was perfected in Turkey and, honestly, it doesn't hurt at all!.  Unsightly hair is whisked away from the legs, bikini line and underarms in a flash. Better still, it won't grow back for weeks.  The usual method is to apply salon-made wax from the back of a spoon to your skin (made with heated sugar rather the the normal wax) and this is then pulled off with white linen strips.

You may find salons where cool wax is rolled into a sticky ball, spread on and then removed in one piece. This is a good method for the very nervous but can take a bit longer.
