Bars and Restaurants

Many people consider a
healthy number of bars and restaurants as
one of the basic requirements for a good
holiday. If you agree with this theory you
will be off to a good start because Marmaris
certainly has plenty of both.
There are bound to be a restaurant or bar to
suit your taste, appetite and mood. In
addition to offering a full compliment of
local Turkish dishes most restaurants will
offer a healthy number of international
dishes such as steaks, pastas, pizzas and
salads. While it might be true that you will
not find sausages and mushy peas, you are
sure to find something to suit your taste.

A number of years ago, most of the popular
bars were located in two areas: Long Beach
('Uzunyali') and 'Bar Street'. However those
days are long gone as most hotels and
apartments will have a restaurant and bar
some place on their premises. Of course, if
you want to really go for a pub crawl, Bar
Street is still the place as it offers a
little bit of something for everyone until
the early hours of the morning.
The hotel and apartment bars will usually
slow down around mid-night in consideration
for the guests in the surrounding area who
might want to sleep. This is certainly not
true about Bar Street as the thumping beat
of the music can be heard for hundreds of
metres around and several miles down the
coast.
There is also the area below the castle and
along the promenade which is
sometimes jokingly referred as "Short Beach"
because there is no longer a beach there.
This is the area which includes the long
promenade along the harbour running from the
Ataturk Statue around the point below the
castle and on to Netsel Marina. On the land
side you will find original bars and
restaurants where you can spend many hours
over a good meal or drink watching the
passing parade or simply looking at the
beautiful yachts and gulets (wooden Turkish
charter yachts) on the sea side.
There are a number of shops within Netsel
Marina complex which might be described as
"high end" but well worth a visit if only to
see the interesting items on offer.
Below you will find details of a number of
bars and restaurants which you might find
