The Mercan is a fish restaurant located in the harbour
near by the Netsel Marina which can be reached after a
stroll through the central bazaar. The restaurant faces
the harbour with it's view of the moored yachts while
the rear opens onto Bar Street - see
link to map. Mercan was opened in
July 2006 by the owner who has many years experience of
restaurant business in Marmaris.
While you dine and relax you can enjoy the calm relaxed
atmosphere of the marina. You can indulge in the ancient
sport of "people watching" or fine Turkish gulets moored
at the quayside. . There is usually a nice cooling
breeze in the evening. During the day you can enjoy a
refreshing drink and sit back in the shade of the large
umbrellas or you can enjoy the sun as you wish.
The speciality of Mercan is fish and seafood dishes
including sea bass, for example. Fish is one of the
favourites of the Turkish people who will enjoy their
meal at a leisurely pace and, of course, will include a
glass or two of raki. At The Mercan you can enjoy
fish dishes in real Turkish style. The dishes will
include salad, 4 different meze (starters) and a
17 cc bottle of traditional raki Mercan's menu is
not limited to just fish and seafood but also includes a
wide selection of other dishes also. For example:
chicken, steak, pizza and many different salads.
Visit in the morning, lunch time or in the evening and you
will find there is always something to interest you. The
staff are polite and efficient offering good and
attentive service. Prices are clearly marked and
you know in advance what you will pay - this is also
true for your fish dishes which will be weighted and
priced when you order.
Having dined well, later in the evening you can move to
the another side of the building to the bar street side
as Mercan has tables and chairs on both the front and
back sides of their establishment. Sit back, relax
and enjoy the atmosphere and watch bar street filling
with people out to enjoy their evening with merriment
and dancing. Mercan in bar street is in very good
location from which to continue your evening.
You can also try it out a Turkish water pipe while
having a local drink. Water pipes can be rented from the
staff and they will also teach you how to use if this is
your first time. There are many different tastes from
which you can choose: strawberry, apple and banana for
example.
Mercan will be open all year around.
